Dear Friends of CTLC:
As CTLC begins to distribute food once a month rather than three times every six months I am reminded of Exodus16:13-21. In this story the Israelites begin to complain of hunger. God responds by delivering manna (bread) on a daily basis except for Friday when each is to take a double portion since none would be available on the Sabbath. Any amount not used or hoarded spoiled. In this new year, let us remember that each of us has received an abundance of gifts from God and in turn we have an equally abundant set of responsibilities to share and to provide for others.
The fall food drive was a success and I must take a moment to thank a few contributors who went way above and beyond the call of duty: Scott and White Hospital, Central Texas Christian School, the Boy Scouts of America, HEB, Channel 10, Oak Park Methodist Church, and Temple Bible Church. CTLC’s portion was the equivalent of 20,000 lbs. of food.
While issuing Thank You’s, CTLC needs to express our appreciation to all those who made a special effort to assist with special needs during the holiday season. from food cards to toys, you made every effort to help.
The Salvation Army needs our assistance with the preparation and distribution of food for the homeless. Several churches have stepped up to the plate and are providing one or more meals a month and/or sacks of sandwiches and snacks. CTLC is tracking two churches and their efforts so that we might formulate suggestions from which volunteer churches might work. We are providing food or $200.00 per day and the two churches the manpower. We hope the information we gain will be of assistance to those wishing to help. Please encourage your congregation to prepare both one hot meal and sandwiches on a regular schedule. Contact Captain Martha Higdon or Tanya Dickerson at the Salvation Army phone # 774-9996 to schedule your efforts.
During the month of November 861 clients representing 2,817 individuals sought our assistance; 876 clients (some more than once) sought food and 576 clothing; 329 requested linen, 84 diapers/pull-ups, 712 toiletries of various kinds, and 30 heaters.
Volunteers prayed with 807 clients, distributed 264 bibles, and provided 3 professional counseling services. I think it is important to note that not all of our clients wish our prayers in a formal manner. What they are unaware of is that our volunteers, unbeknownst to the client, pray for them anyway.
“Our one Provider, let us respond with gratitude and generosity, sharing the deep well you’ve bestowed upon us with all those who thirst and hunger.” The Unfolding Journey
