Presbyterian Women May 2012

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are inneed. Practice hospitality.“                                                                  Romans 12:12,13

This scripture reminds me of our circle lesson this month about peacemakers. Whenever I visit another church that practices the “May the peace of Christ be with you”, I always have a special feeling of belonging and feel welcomed and comfortable knowing that I am among brothers and sisters in Christ. I hope that tradition will become ours. I am also reminded of our lesson’s warning that we are not just “passing the peace”, but we are obligated to make peace. Praying, sharing and practicing hospitality with our neighbors (remember who our neighbors are) are ways we can be peacemakers.

The lessons we learned last month from Dr. Beryl Lawn about being disabled reflect this scripture admonishing us to be patient, to share and to open our hearts, our homes and our church to those who are different - actually we are all different, but we are one in Christ.  Our prayer needs include Marilyn Burres, Carol Ehman - rejoice that she was back in our circle last week, Maxine Benson, Lucille Yuen, Laura Tatum and others.

The Salvation Army needs helpers for lunch preparation for over 100 people daily. Contact Louis Fields about this service. This could be a good volunteer project for each circle.  Susan Phelps tells me that the school supply list for BPB middle-schoolers is much longer this year, so the cost /backpack may increase. Contact Susan if you can help with shopping.  The Presbyterian Women Board is considering a purchase of new communion service in polished brass as ours (purchased in 1964) is “unpolishable”. Thom suggested a memorial display for these original pieces when we dedicate the new plates and then the retired set could be donated to a new or needy congregation.

Remember your Birthday Offering and Least Coin are due by June 1. We surely rejoice that our treasurer, Carol Johnson has returned to “active duty” after her surgery and rehab.

May the peace of Christ be with you.
